How to get rid of damp and mold

Damp is a phenomenon that is manifested by persistent moisture of the walls because of the water retained in the pores of the materials in which the walls are made. Damp can become an enormous problem for your home! Untreated can easily transform into mold.

The smell of dampness is also unhealthy for your body, and can cause respiratory and cardiovascular disease!

Don’t confuse the damp with condensation! Not every wet wall suffer from dampness. Both moisture and condensation are characterized by moisture. The difference? Damp is permanent and condensation is temporary.

Soon, dampness will turn into mold! And you will not get rid of mold, treating the problem superficial! Removing the mold with a dry cloth or painting the wall again doesn’t solve anything! You will not see the mold again on the surface of the wall, but it continues to grow inside it.

Here are some methods against damp and mold

Thermal insulation. Apply thermal insulation to the outside of the building, not to the inside. The role of thermal insulation is to condense the water vapors inside it, because later, due to ventilation, the wall eliminates moisture.

On the outside, the thermal insulation is made by applying expanded polystyrene, mineral wool and polyurethan foam.

Electro-osmotic method. It’s suitable for treating dampness of any origin. The goal is to keep moisture away from home. The method consists in introducing into the wall through some titanium anodes, mounted in the structure, just above the ground level, a very low electrical current, totally harmless. The effect is to reject moisture to the bottom of the wall and to place it into the ground. The installation is clean and fast, the result is invisible, and the destruction is minimal. This system can be used both to prevent dampness and to combat it. Electric consumption is very low.

Paints and anti-damp solutions. These solutions are against condensation, not against dampness. If you use these products to remove dampness, they will not be effective because they act on the effect, not on the cause. They will form an impermeable barrier that will keep water in the wall, preventing condensation on the surface, but wall degradation continues.
If the walls are damaged by condensation, before applying one of these solutions or paints, the walls must be dried by washing them using chlorine and ventilation.

5 Ways to get rid of moths

Moths are not easy to remove, especially if they manage to invade your wardrobe. They are rapidly growing in the warm season, taking advantage of the presence of thick cloths that you haven’t packed in bags.

In places where you have thick cloths of cotton or wool, the moths are starting their party. Even dirty clothes are not avoided by these small insects: they feel attracted by the smell of sweat. So hygiene is essential if you want the moths not to invade your home. Make cleaning in your closet as often as you can and ventilate well the clothes and the house!

I will present you today some effective solutions to get rid of moths:

1. Cedar flavor is an effective and not dangerous method for human health. You can use cedar oil or just dry cedar leaves. Both variants are lethal for moths.

2. Naphthalene. The most popular solution against moth is naphthalene. It’s not, however, the most effective method. It smells bad, it’s toxic, and if it’s old it doesn’t work anymore. Specialists recommend naphthalene only if moths are over-sized, and other weaker substances cannot combat them.

3. Insecticides. Effective but harmful to the human body. That’s how we characterize these solutions.

4. Aromatic plants. I prefer them, instead of toxic solutions. They have a high efficiency and a persistent perfume that drives away the moths. The list includes rosemary, mint, lavender and pepper. Put the dried leaves of these plants or fresh pepper grains in slim sachets. Then put the bags between your clothes.

5. Covers for clothes. It is preferable to keep the clothes that attract moths (wool, cotton, or silk) into special covers that seal tightly. You can also store them in tightly closed plastic bags or in evacuated bags.

I will always choose natural solutions instead of chemicals ones.

How to clean an oven without chemicals

Does your oven get dirty quickly? It’s normal if you like to cook frequently. But you don’t have to worry anymore when it comes to its cleaning! Now you have a 100% natural cleaning solution without chemicals that could endanger your health.

You need: water, white vinegar, baking soda,  a pair of disposable gloves, a sprayer, a cloth and a silicone or plastic blade.

What should you do:

– remove all the things from the oven (grills, rotisseries, etc.).

– mix 150 grams of baking soda with a few tablespoons of water in a bowl. Adjust the amount of each of the ingredients until you obtain a homogeneous paste. About 3 tablespoons of water are enough to get the necessary consistency.

– fit the gloves, then spread the baking soda and water mixture inside the oven and on the door. Avoid the areas where the flame comes out when the oven is switched on. Baking soda will turn brown. Don’t be scared! It’s a natural reaction. Don’t hesitate to fully cover the surfaces.

– close the door and let the paste act for half a day.

– after this period, open the oven. Moisten the cloth and clean all the paste you put inside the oven. If the cloth doesn’t help enough to remove the dirt, use a silicone or plastic blade.

– if after this operation it hasn’t been cleaned all the baking soda mixture, put white vinegar in a sprayer and spread the solution on the dirty areas. In a few seconds, the baking soda will turn into a foam.

– rinse with a wet cloth and then wipe with a dry towel.

– put the oven accessories back on after cleaning it.

Usually, the solution form the market, specially designed for cleaning the oven, are very strong and contains many chemicals. Thus, are very dangerous. This is the most effective natural solution when it comes to cleaning the oven.

How to get rid of mosquitoes with only one ingredient

Mosquitoes represent a threat during the hot season! They enter easily into any home and attack without shame. Many people buy sprays and/or pills against these insects, without taking into account that the smell emanating from these insecticides is toxic.

You can drive away mosquitoes from your home using a 100% natural method: coffee beans!

What should you do:

1. Keep the coffee grounds and put it on a plate, then cover with aluminum foil.

2. Keep the plate in a dry, cool place until the coffee grounds are dry.

3. Place the plate somewhere on a table. Be careful that pets or children don’t have access to it.

3. Fire it with a match until the smoke starts to get out.

4. It will burn slowly, and mosquitoes will disappear.

Another natural method is based on bay leaves. All you have to do is use bay leaves instead of mosquito pills. Burn them with a lighter or a match! The resulting smoke will kill mosquitoes.

These two methods are amazing and very effective. Your summer will be easier without mosquitoes!

How to properly use your washing machine

The washing machine is an indispensable home appliance for everyone. Unfortunately, many people use it wrong, not getting the desired efficiency and even making it inoperable. If you have such problems, we offer today some tips that are essential for the proper use of the washing machine.

1. Loading the washing machine. Ideally would be to load the machine at 80% of the capacity. If you put too much laundry, they will not wash well. If, on the other hand, you put too few dirty clothes in your washing machine, they could suffer.

2. Water temperature. A temperature between 40 and 60 Celsius degrees is considered the best choice for disinfecting the underwear and removing dirt. Washing with cold water doesn’t destroy bacteria and mites on linen and towels. Instead, too hot water can damage the fabrics.

3. The laundry softener tends to penetrate fabrics and stiffen clothes. To avoid this problem, use white vinegar. Simply add 85 ml of vinegar to the washing machine, in the compartment designed for laundry softener during rinse and the dirt will disappear from the linen. In addition, it will be soft and velvety.

4. Remove stains

– to get rid of fresh oil stains, apply starch on the affected areas. Then simply washed the clothing.

– traces of juice or tomato sauce can be easily removed with a few drops of WD-40 multifunction spray. Apply it on stained areas and let it work for 5-10 minutes. Then wash the clothing in cold water.

– to remove the sweat stains from white clothes, use a prewash program, with detergent, at 40 degrees. Then wash the clothes using bleach.

– to remove coffee and wine stains, soak the clothes in a water and salt solution (1 tablespoon of salt per 1 liter of water) for one hour. Then wash your clothes.

– use baking soda to get rid of yellowing of white clothes and to remove odors. Add 1/2 cup of bicarbonate soda in the detergent and wash the laundry in hot water.

5. Drying the laundry. Experts recommend drying the clothes outdoors, exposing them to sunlight. If you have to use the dryer, put a tennis ball in the machine when drying your clothes. They will become soft and fluffy.
